While an average buyer will have to shell out up to £88,000 for the new Jaguar limousine, the custom-made version of the car for the Prime Minister will cost over £200,000. The high-end version will feature special bullet- and bomb-proof security armor, run-flat tires, bulletproof glass and a self-contained oxygen supply. Moreover, the lightweight body is made from 50 percent recycled aluminium and the fuel economy is of up to 40 miles a gallon. The new four-door flagship XJ comes equipped with an array of gizmos and a big panoramic glass roof. Gadgetry includes a high-def TV with dual-view technology on an 8-inch touchscreen and a 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins hi-fi with 20-speaker surround sound with iPod docking and voice-control for radio, CD, phone and sat-nav. Supermodel Elle MacPherson, who was present during the unveiling of the new luxury XJ, is herself planning to buy one. Now, the General Election results will decide whether Gordon Brown or David Cameron will be chauffeured in it. The new XJ enjoys sporty coupe looks and an interior chrome and piano-black trim. Jaguar said that the new flagship XJ blends “elegant, contemporary design with comfort, luxury and sporting style.”

The British-built Jaguar XJ limousine has been the car of choice for Prime Ministers and their key cabinet members for years. Interestingly, the former Labour Deputy Prime Minister was called “Two Jags” as he had two jaguars, private and official. The celebrity studded audience at the unveiling included Sir Trevor McDonald, TV journalist Eamon Holmes, Rosamund Pike, sports journalist Andrew Castle, members of Spandau Ballet and former Eastenders stars Shane Ritchie and Martine McCutcheon. The limousine was unveiled by US TV chat-show host and car enthusiast Jay Leno at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
